When his mother asked him to do him the small favor of building a house for him, Caspar Schols of Eindhoven, Holland, got down to work. And the result of his work is prodigious.
Caspar's mother had always dreamed of having a small cabin, a refuge to spend time in her garden. This place on the edge of a pond seemed the perfect place for it.
Caspar has never visited the interior of an architectural school, but still I had some ideas. It was supposed to be a small garden house. I would use fir wood to build it.
Said and done. It took him only six months until he finished the job. Punctually, on his birthday, Mom would cut the celebration ribbon and the place would be his.
When you see it in the distance, you can not say at all how extraordinary it is. But you move a hand and …
… the house is divided in half and two cabins slide on each end. You might even think that two houses were together.
As the cabins move outward, the interior becomes increasingly spacious. But the transformation is not even complete. Look at this:
Alone when you see both external frames taken out completely, when you realize that the center of the house can become a winter Garden. It even has a small wood oven! You just have to push the glass walls again and you will be protected from the wind and the weather.
A view of the interior will take your breath away. The natural game of light is really impressive.
"I was looking for a design with a lot of flexibility," explained Caspar. "If possible, a design that has the flexibility of clothes should be able to get away with changing the layers of the house almost as easily as changing clothes when desired."
His mother could hardly believe what his eyes were seeing when Caspar showed him all the different possibilities that the house offers. She was enthusiastic and proud of her son's work.
She loved the possibility of organizing dinners with friends under the night sky. In addition, his grandchildren are invited to use the house as a stage for their theater and dance performances.
The whole family is ready to spend a night under the twinkling stars and breakfast the next morning on the terrace.
