The air transport is a very common travel method in our society. When most people imagine commercial aircraft, it visualizes the standard configuration of a tubular fuselage and two wings. However, aerospace engineers around the world are developing new designs for future airplanes that would revolutionize air travel.
Here are 8 proposed aircraft for the future:
1- Air Airship
Airships they played a fundamental role in commercial aviation before they disappeared to mid-twentieth century . However, some intrepid aerospace designers are developing several designs to reuse these aircraft.
One of the most interesting ideas is the airship Aether . The designer, Mac Byers, realized that his aircraft had to be different from the aircraft of the past so that people did not associate it with disasters like the Hindenburg explosion . That is why the airship Aether has a stylized and similar appearance to that of a shark that transmits security and futurism .
This airship is more similar to a cruise than to a normal commercial airplane. Conceptually, the Aether aircraft would travel routes in different places while offering enough amenities so that passengers do not have to leave the aircraft if they do not wish to.
Although design is only a concept, it gives us an idea of what What does the future hold. These ships are more economical, have a large payload capacity and offer a completely new travel experience for tourists.
2- Boeing X-48
Although Boeing recently began production of its 787 aircraft, its engineers are already working on its next commercial aircraft. This time, Boeing plans to do something radically different.
Instead of the same fuselage and wing design, Boeing engineers are looking to create a passenger plane in which both parties combine to create one ]
Both NASA and Boeing are experimenting with combined wings for commercial and military purposes. To explore the aerodynamic possibilities, the two groups worked together to build the X-48 a unmanned jet airplane built from this novel idea.
X-48s were successful, showing that the aircraft had a high payload, was quieter than expected and had an extremely good fuel efficiency. Based on this, it seems obvious that aircraft with wings combined are the future of the aerospace industry .
3- Reaction engines A2
 Another great impulse in the aerospace sector is the hypersonic line airplanes . While the Concorde and the TU-144 made history as the first commercially operated supersonic commercial aircraft, modern engineers are now looking to design commercial aircraft that are capable of reaching speeds greater than Mach 5 . the vanguard is the British company Reaction Engines Limited, which designed a concept for an aircraft called A2 . This futuristic-looking plane would travel at hypersonic speeds and be respectful of the environment. At maximum speed, the A2 could fly from Australia to northern Europe in just 5 hours .
4- Bombardier Antipode
It does not Much, the Canadian company Bombardier has brought to light their new commercial jet concept, which they have called Antipode. They designed a small plane that only carries a few people but can fly to Mach 24 . At that speed, the Antipode could travel from New York to London in just 11 minutes .
One of the biggest concerns of this prototype is that the body of the plane could get too hot at those speeds due to the air friction . As a countermeasure, the Bombardier proposes a solution called long penetration mode. The system would use ventilation holes located in the nose of the aircraft from which cold supersonic air would be expelled on the fuselage to cool it and at the same time reduce the noise of the sonic barrier.
5- Boeing Pelican
In the early 2000s, Boeing investigated the construction of a new transoceanic aircraft called Pelican . Although it is primarily designed to carry cargo, the ideas behind the Pelican design are applicable to commercial aircraft. In concept, the Pelican was a huge plane that used the ground effect to fly.
The ground effect is an aerodynamic phenomenon in which objects flying at low altitudes can trap the air below them. and use the "cushion" that is generated to slide quickly and efficiently over the water. The Pelican would take advantage of the ground effect on the ocean, flying only 6 meters above the water .
During the ground flight, the Pelican would fly at normal altitudes. When using the ground effect, Boeing expected the Pelican to be extremely fuel efficient which was important due to its size. With a wingspan of 150 meters, the Pelican would be the largest aircraft in the world.
Although the design was promising, Boeing has not returned to the concept since the early 2000s for unknown reasons. However, the concept of ground effect transport is likely to reappear in civil aviation because it can carry comparable cargoes to ships but at higher speeds and with minimum fuel cost.
Even when airplanes travel at subsonic speeds, the noise from their engine is annoying for people who live near airports. To combat the problem, a group from MIT and the University of Cambridge developed the SAX-40 a concept of super silent aircraft .
Planes are noisy primarily due to the irregularities in their bodies, so the SAX-40 is highly aerodynamic . Due to its geometry, the SAX-40 has much more support surface than a normal aircraft. As a result, would not need to use the auxiliary ailerons that extend into the wings during takeoff and landing, which would reduce airplane noise.
The engine air intakes are on top of the plane, which allows the fuselage to protect people from the noise of the engine. To reduce exhaust noise from the engine, the SAX-40 uses variable exhaust that would change shape during flight with minimal noise.
The aircraft would only generate 63 decibels of noise at takeoff and Landing outside the perimeter of the airport. To give you an idea, normal jets generate about 100 decibels. The SAX-40 would generate both noise and an air conditioning unit .
The German Aerospace Center (GAC) is developing Your own design for high-speed travel. However, instead of relying solely on standard ideas of aircraft, the GAC is developing a spacecraft called SpaceLiner .
In concept, the SpaceLiner combines the best features of a rocket and a plane . Like the US space shuttle, SpaceLiner uses the concept of two stages . The spacecraft would be put into orbit with the help of a cryogenic booster rocket, which would then fall to Earth.
For the aircraft to be reusable, the Germans are developing an effective method to capture the rocket that falls from the sky. At extremely high altitudes, the SpaceLiner would accelerate to Mach 25 which would allow it to fly from Australia to Europe in less than 90 minutes .
8- Concorde 2
Although the Concorde, the first supersonic aircraft, was discarded, its legacy is still alive with the next generation of aircraft. Last year, Airbus won patent rights for the design of a new aircraft called Concorde 2 . Following the steps of the original aircraft, this second version would exceed the limits and would become the first hypersonic airplane .
The key selling point of the new airplane would be its cruising speed at Mach 4.5 . For this, the Concorde 2 would use three types of engines . The aircraft would use lift jets for a vertical takeoff, similar to those used by Harrier fighters.
Once the Concorde 2 was in the air, a jet engine would make the craft reach supersonic speeds, and finally, ramjet located on the wings would accelerate the plane to its cruising speed of Mach 4.5.
