I'm sure you've heard that "Summers are not what they used to be" on more than one occasion. And even if you do not believe it, it's true. And it is that only a few years ago, when the summer holidays arrived, the Spaniards did things that today are completely unthinkable. And the truth is that they had their charm …
Things we did before in the summer and now you would not think
1 – Leave the children in a camp and not know anything about them in two weeks
Yes, although it sounds very far, only about years there were no mobiles, so you left your son in the middle of the mountain and you picked him up 15 days later completely assaulted . At most a call to the landline a week to know that they were still alive. Now, it does not take us two hours to talk to them on their mobile phone or see what they have posted on social networks.
2- Allow 2 hours after eating before taking a bath
Yes, when you finished eating the sandwich, tortillas or breaded steaks, at 4 in the afternoon when more heat I had to wait under the umbrella for a couple of hours because otherwise could give you a "digestive cut" . Today we know that unless you have eaten roast suckling pig you do not need to wait that long.
3- Say goodbye to your summer love and do not see it anymore
The truth is that it had its charm, you spent a romantic summer together and although in the farewell you released a couple of lagrimillas, return from the holidays and start the routine, either you ended up forgetting it or you wanted it to arrive the following summer . Nowadays, for better or for worse, this is almost impossible, thanks to social networks.
4- Half of Spain travel by car without wearing a belt
Although in Spain it is mandatory since 1974, most people did not use it especially on long trips where children were even lying down and asleep. And although it is true that it is much more comfortable, we must remember that the belt reduces the risk of death by 50%, and up to 90% in the event of a frontal crash.
5- Sunbathing without sunscreen
Seeing someone throwing themselves with protective cream a few years ago was something very rare . In some cases children were thrown out or sometimes women, but for most men it was unthinkable. Luckily, today we are much more aware of this issue; although we must also recognize that ultraviolet rays are now much more harmful.
6- Thinking that the plane was a rich thing
Only a couple of decades ago, for many traveling by plane was something completely inaccessible . However, today, thanks to the appearance of low cost companies, it is very rare to find someone who has never traveled by plane.
7- Do not nap to see Indurain win the Tour de France
Naps in summer, when 4 o'clock in the afternoon exceeds 30 degrees are more than necessary. However, during the 90s Miguel Indurain caused more than one to be lost to see him win the Tour de France.
8- Having to reveal the photos after the holidays
Do not you think that uncertainty had some magic? When the digital cameras did not yet exist, one played it for all the vacations taking pictures that you could not see until he got home and took them to reveal. Today, you can take 100 photos in a minute with your smartphone and choose the one you like the most.
9- Put the famous pink bubble on the children so they do not drown
Today we are more accustomed to seeing children with sleeves, but a few years ago the pink bubble was what almost everyone had to avoid that they would drown. Over time, was no longer recommended because the children could turn around and face down.
10- Send a postcard from the holiday destination
We had to go to a store, buy a postcard, write it, buy a stamp, look for a mailbox and wait for it to arrive. If you did not leave many days, sometimes it even came after you . But, what about the illusion that he made to your family and friends?
11- Telephone to book the hotel
Yes, although it seems impossible a few years ago there was neither Internet nor Airbnb so if you wanted book accommodation for your holidays, they had to start calling one by one until you found the perfect stay.
12- Listening to music on the beach in the 'walkman'
Pour the mythical 'walkman' and several tapes into the suitcase Cassette was one of the few summer options for lovers of music
13- Using a map to get to our destination
Although it sounds practically impossible, A few years ago we arrived at the destinations without using the GPS mainly because it did not exist yet. A road map, a skilful co-pilot, and heading for vacation.
14- Leaving the dog with friends or family
Most of the accommodations did not accept pets so when it was time to leave for the holiday destination there was nothing to do but leave the pet with some friends or relatives. 15- Take the fan to the room of the house where we were
Currently 35.5% of Spanish homes have air conditioning . But until not long ago, having this was a luxury. So to combat the heat, nothing better than to carry the fan everywhere.
